University Entrance

University Entrance Requirements from 2014:

University Entrance (UE) will be the minimum requirement to go to a New Zealand university. To be awarded UE you will need:

  • NCEA Level 3 plus
  • Three subjects - at Level 3 or above, made up of 14 credits each, in three approved subjects plus
  • Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, 5 credits in reading AND 5 credits in writing from specific standards plus
  • Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above from specific achievement standards, or three specific numeracy unit standards

Once you have met the requirements for University Entrance it will appear on your Record of Achievement. This does not guarantee entry to the degree or subjects of your choice - in many cases, a higher level of achievement will be required. Many degrees at polytechnics, institutes of technology and private training enterprises also require this entry standard.

New Zealand Scholarship:

Scholarship provides recognition and monetary reward to top students in their last year of schooling. Scholarship exams enable candidates to be assessed against challenging standards, and are demanding for the most able candidates in each subject.
