This Social Sciences course has a history focus looking at key decisions and events of the 20th century.  Students will explore the roles of individuals, groups and governments in decision making, and consider how 20th century decisions have continued to impact society today.

Case studies could include the decision to give women the vote in NZ and the USA, the decision to prohibit alcohol in the USA, the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima Ngasaki, the decision to conduct the Dawn Raids, and the decision to protest nuclear testing in the Pacific.

All of these cases studies will be explored within the wider context of other actions, ideas and movements of the 20th Century.

Students will develop writing and research skills, including how to engage with different source materials and examining their relevance and limitations.

NOTE: This course cannot be taken in conjunction with SJS 101: Social Justice Studies.
