DTG101

Level 1 Digital Technology for Game Development (DGT101)

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Miss M. Nicholl.

Game Development is the art of creating games and describes the design, development and release of a game. It may involve concept generation, designing, building, testing and releasing a game. While you create a game, it is important to think about the game mechanics, rewards, player engagement and level design.

A game developer could be a programmer, a sound designer, an artist, a designer or many other roles available in the industry. Year 11 Students taking DTG101 will have the opportunity to explore these different roles as they create each aspect of their game, gaining experience with 3D modelling, asset creation, animation, level design, sound design and more.

The way we use technology and what we use technology for has rapidly evolved over the years, creating new jobs, opportunities and study pathways. DTC (Digital Technology) classes have in turn evolved beyond word processing, and typing skills and have begun to focus on developing students understanding of decision making, coding languages, programs and software used in game development, crafting plans/proposals, seeking stakeholder feedback and using it to inform their design process, testing game builds and evaluating their fitness for purpose.

Course Overview

Term 1
Blender skills and 3D Modelling Assessment (1.4 Develop a digital media outcome) begins.

Term 2
Term 2, Week 1, 3D Modelling Assessment (1.4 Develop a digital media outcome) is due. This term we begin creating a design for a game that will be made using Game Maker Studio 2 (1.2 Develop a design for a digital outcome).

Term 3
Term 3, week 2, (1.2 Develop a design for a digital outcome) is due. This term we create what we have designed within standard 1.8 (Use basic iterative processes to develop a digital technologies outcome). Halfway through this term we begin working on HCI (Human computer interaction) for out external.

Term 4
Term 4, week 2, 1.8 is due and students should be all prepared for the external.

Recommended Prior Learning
