Year 12 Health
A real interest in Health Education
Health is an important part of our country and the world, in this course you will have the opportunity to explore a variety of up to date topics and gain knowledge and understanding of the issues that surround us. You will also research and develop strategies to explore ways of assisting these issues for the communities in New Zealand.
As a result of learning at this level you will be able to:
Explain why some health-related situations are a concern for communities or the whole population of a country or region.
Analyse critically how the determinants of health affect well-being in relation to an identified health issue.
Explore global health issues
Recommend and justify strategies that reflect the values of social justice
Topics may include: Alcohol and other drug use in NZ, Issues related to sexuality, euthanasia, immunization, life style changes (diet and exercise), teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS in a region of the world.
You will research, investigate and identify up to date topics.
Term 1
3.1 Analyse a New Zealand Health issue: Mental Health. 5 credits (continues to Term 2)
3.3 Evaluate health practices currently used in New Zealand: Mental Health. 5 credits (continues to Term 2)
Investigate mental health as an issue and what practices are available to assist.
Term 2
3.1 Analyse a New Zealand Health issue: Mental Health. 5 credits
3.3 Evaluate health practices currently used in New Zealand: Mental Health. 5 credits
3.4 Analyse a contemporary ethical issue in relation to well-being: Own choice. 4 credits (continues to Term 3)
Research and investigate different ethical issues, and how they relate to well-being.
Term 3
3.4 Analyse a contemporary ethical issue in relation to well-being: Own choice. 4 credits
3.2 Analyse an international health issue: Type 2 Diabetes in the Pacific. 5 credits (continues to Term 4)
Focus on a topic that is a big issues and identify strategies to assist in this topic.
Term 4
3.2 Analyse an international health issue: Type 2 Diabetes in the Pacific. 5 credits
