Level 1 Religious Studies Pilot Course (RST101)
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms L. Paul.
This course is a pilot course in which students will complete four of the new Achievement Standards to be introduced in 2024. The course can have up to 20 credits overall and will count as part of NCEA Level One as normal. The final number of standards we will be doing is yet to be confirmed by NZQA.
The course begins with a focus on the development of the Catholic Church in Aotearoa. Students will learn about the history of the Church in Aotearoa and the impact it has had on NZ society.
Students will then complete a course on ethics and develop an understanding of Catholic Social Teaching.
In Term 3, students will be learning about Jewish wisdom literature and its role as an important religious narrative within the Jewish tradition.
The year will conclude with an exam, in which students describe important characteristics found in two major world religions, Judaism and Catholicism.

Assessment Information
This course will be trialing the new standards recently created by NZQA (to be introduced in all school sin 2024). There are four 5 credit assessments altogether - 2 internal and 2 external.Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
Total Credits Available: 20 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 10 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 10 credits.
