HEA101

Level 1 Health - Hauora Tahi (HEA101)

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

Health Education has become increasingly important for our young people in recent years as we see a constant rise in social pressure, anxiety, suicide rates, and mental health issues. Educating you about strategies they can use for coping with the daily challenges they will face is a priority for any learning environment

Level 1 Health Education supports the curriculum’s vision for you our young people, by enabling you to develop the values, knowledge, and competencies to live full and satisfying lives.  Through your engagement with level 1 Health Education, students develop the competencies to become confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners, ready to contribute to the future well-being of New Zealand.

In this course you will discuss broader health issues and develop the knowledge and interpersonal skills to enable you to interact sensitively with other people. You will learn how to enhance your well-being as well as develop strategies to cope with changes in well-being.

In this course, you will learn about real life health related decisions they may face in substance related situations and strategies for making positive decisions based on personal values and beliefs. You will learn to promote positive sexuality, celebrate who they are, and create inclusive and supportive environments for themselves and their peers.

We integrate the work of Vibe into this programme and to date it has proven very successful.
