This course provides students with the skills and understanding to be able to record, mix and create music using both live and electronic sound sources. Students will be required to capture and manipulate sound to compose and record music for a range of contexts e.g. film, dance, games, or theatre. The course will be both practical and written and can be taken concurrently with Level 1, 2 or 3 Music. It is designed to provide a pathway into the music industry. Assessment will use a combination of Achievement and Unit Standards at the appropriate NCEA Level of the student.
Course Overview
Term 1
L1 students are introduced to recording software and explore how this can be used to replicate existing music and create a simple sequence.
L2 refresh music production software skills and complete the research of a NZ musician and present to class.
L3 build upon music production software skills and complete in-depth research into a music technology topic of their choosing and design.
Any L2 or 3 students wishing to study composition will work towards this throughout the term. L3 first composition due.
Term 2
L1 students begin work on first composition using music production software. This is due at the end of the term.
L2 students first composition due
L2 students work to complete US32302 to create a musical cover using music production software of artist they research in term 1.
L3 work through and complete US32305 - operating a music sequencing application
L3 students second composition due at the end of the term
Term 3
L1 students complete their second composition using music production software.
L1 & 2 complete US27703 to demonstrate and apply knowledge of sound control and enhancement processes required for a performance context.
L3 students demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of recorded sound through completing US28007 to select and apply a range of processes to enhance sound in a performance context.
L2 second composition due at the end of the term.
Term 4
L3 students third composition due at end of week 1.
Students continue working on any standards they are yet to complete.
