Level 2 Drama is part of a scaffolded approach to Drama (a four year journey from Year 10-13).

Internal assessments:

Internals will be performed over the course of the year to a live audience.

  • Techniques: an assessment done in pairs or threes that explores students' use of Voice, Body, Movement and Space to create a character and perform a scene
  • Devising: students work in groups to create their own pieces using Drama Elements, Conventions and Technologies.
  • Production: students work as a whole class to put on a play
  • Theatre Form: students will perform a scene that shows understanding of traditional character types and storylines, and learn how modern theatre has been influenced by the past through the study of Elizabethan Theatre (Shakespeare).

External assessments:

The NCEA Drama exam is written, and students will have one compulsory paper and one optional paper to complete.

  • Live Theatre: a study of a play seen through the year
  • Theatre Form: demonstrate an academic understanding of Elizabethan Theatre

Throughout the course of the year the skills that students learn will ensure they are prepared for Level 3, but also encourage life skills such as: creativity, confidence, collaboration, time management, accountability, and conflict resolution.
