Course Description

This course will enable students to develop their listening, writing, reading and speaking skills in Gagana Samoa. They will also begin to develop an understanding and appreciation of Samoan culture, in-depth study and use of formal/gagana fa’aaloalo.

The units are contextually based on covering the following topics: Aiga/ Family Roles & Responsibilities, Matai system, Shopping, Protocols – Tu ma aga fa’asamoa eg Folafola Taumafa, Hospitality. Five language standards are completed this year. Internal assessment will focus on speech, conversation and writing. The external examination will focus on listening and reading aspects of the course.


If student numbers are low then this course is likely to run via Te Kura corrsepondance school. Student must have their own devices to enrol in a Te Kura course.

Pre-requisite Level 1 Samoan – a minimum 14 credits or a proven fluency in Samoan language at the discretion of the HOD.
