Course Description

This course 'Our Pacific Neighbours' centres on the themes nationalism, colonisation and decolonisation throughout the late 19th and 20th Century specifically centred in the South East Asian and Pacific regions.  Case studies include: The US Annexation of Hawai'i, New Zealand's Invasion of Samoa, Samoa's fight for independence, and the Indochinese Conflicts (Vietnam War).   Students have the opportunity to analyse New Zealand’s role in these major 20th Century events and complete their internal assessment tasks on aspects of these events.

There are two internal assessments and two external assessment offered.
