Course Description

Earth Space Science explores the interconnections between the land, ocean, atmosphere and life on our planet. ESS also explores the cyclical interactions between the Earth system, the sun and the moon.

This course offers 3 internally assessed achievement standards and 2 externally assessed achievement standards. Students are able to gain up to 20 credits and endorsement with Merit or Excellence in ESS.

The topics covered are:

  • Extreme Earth Events - Volcanic eruption, earthquakes and tsunamis
  • Earthquake risk in cities
  • Geological processes in the Wellington region
  • Extreme environments and the things that live there
  • Astronomical Cycles

We will be going on 2 field trips in the Wellington region in Terms 1 and 2.

This course leads to 13 ESS but not other Science courses.
