Course Description

This Level One Social Science course has a history focus and  is a broad studying of dissenting voices in our nation’s history from the Suffragettes of the 1880s to the Anti Nuclear protestors of the 1980s.  Students have the opportunity to also look at the Civil Rights Movement in the USA and Apartheid in South Africa as they influence actions in New Zealand such as the formation of the Polynesian Panthers, and the 1981 Springbok Tour Protests.  There is the chance to complete a research projects based on this theme and learn valuable research skills.  There are 16 credits offered in this course from history achievement standards.  All tasks are worth 4 credits, and there are two internal assessments and two external assessments.

NOTE: This course cannot be taken in conjunction with SOS102 Social Justice Studies.
