DAN101

Level 1 Destined to Dance (DAN101)

The course selection for the current academic year is complete. Online course selection is not available.

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: B. Hibberd

All Dance Level 1 Achievement Standards are internally assessed and most have both a practical and theory component which must be completed. Year 11 Dance requires knowledge relating to dance sequences, dance genres and styles, skills and elements in dance and an understanding of dance performance.

You will learn the school haka and individual perform for 90002 (1.2).  By doing this, we are setting up you to be able to perform with pride and appreciation of the covenant of the sisterhood.  It also makes you aware of the sacred nature of the haka and significance to our school.

You will then create and perform THREE dances 90858 (1.1) following criteria 1. Puutaketake – Covering Bases, 2. Whaanaungatanga – Connections, 3. Kowhaiwhai – Patterns).  This links well to the Treaty of Waitangi and is culturally responsive.  You will be able to draw on their dance experience and learn new dance concepts.  You will culminate the course with a group dance 90859 (1.3) that incorporates all aspects that have been learnt during the year.  The theme is Hip Hop Haka and uses the two genres hip hop and haka.

The Level 1 Dance course will appeal to those students who have an interest in Dance and/or would like to pursue a career in this field.
